Our Story.
From two boys in a Wichita Falls trailer park to one of the largest hunting outfitters in the country — three decades of family, hunts, and the Brazos River.
Two brothers. One Dallas Morning News ad.
Jeff and Tony Stanfield grew up in a trailer park in Wichita Falls, Texas. Their dad — Ron Stanfield, a Wichita Falls fireman for 23 years — started taking them duck hunting when they were 5 and 8 years old. Most of those first hunts happened around home.
As the boys got older they started traveling farther — to Knox and Haskell counties, about an hour and a half from home. By the early 1990s, that stretch of country was a duck and goose honey-hole, and farmers were starting to lease their ground for hunting. It was a good source of income for them, and an end of the line for free-permission hunters.
As college students, Jeff and Tony couldn't afford the leases. So they decided to start a guide service so they could afford a place to hunt themselves. They ran an ad in the Dallas Morning News, and Stanfield Hunting Outfitters was created.
That first full year, the brothers leased 800 acres on the Brazos River and converted an old farmhouse into a lodge, an office, and a home. They turned that farmhouse into a full-service hunting lodge over the years — the kind that can accommodate up to 60 hunters with a commercial kitchen serving three meals a day. On April 9, 2018, they launched The Big Honker Podcast, hosted by Jeff and Andy.
Thirty-plus years in, Stanfield Hunting Outfitters is one of the largest hunting lodges and outfitters in the country — and it's still the same family business, with the same family-oriented customer service that started it.
